Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Lanham, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem (as scheduled), 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM NOC

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $18 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, promoting dignity and independence
Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting) with patience and respect
Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report observations to nursing staff
Support safe mobility and transfers, following proper body mechanics and facility protocols
Help create a comfortable, home-like environment and engage residents in meaningful interaction
Document care activities accurately and maintain clear communication with the care team

Qualifications

Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent per state requirements
CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Prior experience caring for older adults or in long-term care preferred
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a nursing team
Ability to pass facility-required background checks and health screenings

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an approved GNA program or state-approved training

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of basic nursing assistant duties and infection control practices
Comfortable assisting with ADLs and safe patient handling techniques
Ability to observe and report clinical changes accurately
Compassionate bedside manner and strong interpersonal skills
Basic documentation skills and familiarity with electronic or paper charting
