Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Brooklyn Park, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem (days vary), 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Day shift

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate personal care to residents, including bathing, dressing, and grooming
Assist with mobility and safe transfers to promote independence and prevent falls
Monitor residents’ condition and communicate changes clearly to nursing staff
Support meals and feeding assistance while encouraging dignity and choice
Maintain clean, safe environments by following infection control and facility protocols
Document care activities accurately and timely in resident records
Build trusting relationships with residents and families through respectful communication

Qualifications

Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or state-equivalent certification
Prior experience in long-term care, assisted living, or geriatric settings is preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings
Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful bedside manner

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred
Completion of an approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of elder care best practices and dementia-friendly approaches
Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
Basic vital signs measurement and observation skills
Good documentation and time-management abilities
Teamwork mindset and ability to follow care plans accurately
