Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Brooklyn Park, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Varied days (per diem), 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (Evening shift)

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $17 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents with dignity and respect
Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
Observe and report changes in residents’ physical or emotional condition to nursing staff
Support safe transfers and use proper body mechanics to protect residents and yourself
Help maintain a clean, comfortable environment and assist with meal service as needed
Document care and communicate effectively with the care team and families

Qualifications

Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) or equivalent state certification
Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
Comfortable working with older adults and familiar with dementia-friendly approaches
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Reliable, compassionate, and able to follow care plans and facility protocols

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred; completion of an approved GNA program required

Knowledge & Skills

Basic clinical skills: vital sign measurement, safe transfer techniques, catheter and wound observation
Knowledge of infection control and resident safety practices
Ability to recognize and report changes in resident condition
Familiarity with documenting care in electronic or paper charting systems
Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and staff
