Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient-centered care for laboring and postpartum mothers and newborns
- Circulate and assist during C-sections, collaborating with OB, anesthesia, NICU and RT teams
- Monitor and triage patients in the L&D triage area and manage appropriate acuity ratios
- Use Cerner EMR and FHM systems for documentation and fetal monitoring charting
- Maintain safe couplet care on postpartum (mother/baby) units and float there as needed
- Act as charge nurse when assigned and support team workflow and staffing needs
- Participate in unit holiday and weekend rotations and support a baby-friendly environment
- Precept and orient new staff during the 1-2 shift floor-specific orientation
Qualifications
- Active RN (Registered Nurse) license in accordance with state requirements
- Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience (per job data)
- Cerner EMR and FHM (fetal heart monitoring) experience required
- C-section circulation experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required; FHM and AWHONN advanced certification required
- Experience with mother/baby, postpartum, and triage care (couplet care experience a plus)
- Comfort working in a high-volume unit (1,800–2,000 births/year) and managing acuity ratios
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong fetal monitoring and interpretation skills (FHM/Cerner)
- Competence in obstetric emergencies and neonatal resuscitation basics
- Skilled in triage assessment and labor/delivery nursing workflows
- Proficient with Cerner EMR documentation and electronic fetal monitoring systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings (OB, anesthesia, NICU, RT)
- Ability to circulate in the operating room for C-sections and assist with sterile technique
