Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, competent respiratory care and deliver interventions ordered by physicians across specialties (neonatal, pediatric, geriatric, emergency, and critical care)
• Initiate, maintain and closely monitor mechanical ventilation and make data-driven ventilator adjustments
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpret results to guide patient care
• Assess airway status and perform airway management including bag-mask ventilation and suctioning
• Assist with intubation and support intubation-certified clinicians when needed
• Document all respiratory interventions and patient responses accurately and promptly
• Troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment and ensure devices are functioning safely
• Participate in patient care rounds, handoffs, and interdisciplinary communication to promote coordinated care
• Precept and orient new staff and students, contributing to a culture of learning and safety
• Adhere to infection control, PPE, and safety policies to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) — graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program (CRT credential required)
• BLS certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• NRP certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• Minimum of 1 year of hospital respiratory therapy experience
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and meet employee health requirements
• Legal authorization to work in the United States

Education

• Graduate of a COARC-accredited Respiratory Care Program (CRT credential required)
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation: setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Ventilator waveform interpretation (flow-volume and pressure-volume curves)
• Arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
• Airway management and suction techniques
• Medication administration relevant to respiratory care and neonatal/pediatric dosing adjustments
• Patient assessment across the lifespan: neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric
• Proficient documentation and electronic charting of respiratory care services
• Familiarity with pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter, stress testing) and cardiopulmonary equipment
