Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess psychiatric patients and monitor mental status with compassion and clinical clarity
• Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the treatment team
• Administer medications and monitor responses and side effects safely
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation using evidence-based techniques
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes clearly in the patient record
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate care
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and coping strategies
• Advocate for patient safety and contribute to a therapeutic, respectful environment

Qualifications

• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California required
• Previous psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced certifications encouraged
• Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered approach
• Ability to work night shifts and manage a schedule of three 12-hour nights per week

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Therapeutic communication and effective de-escalation techniques
• Medication administration and psychiatric medication knowledge
• Suicide and risk assessment experience
• Familiarity with common psychiatric diagnoses and treatment approaches
• Competence with electronic health record documentation
• Clinical judgment in fast-paced behavioral health settings
