Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and implement care for a diverse med-surg patient population
• Specialize in stroke care, monitoring neurological status and coordinating stroke protocols
• Manage post-operative patients including those with amputations, drains, chest tubes, and feeding tubes
• Care for patients on heparin drips, with wound care needs, and with complex conditions like CIWA, AKI, dialysis, and COPD exacerbations
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care
• Document patient progress and educate patients and families on care plans

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Illinois (or compact license accepted)
• 2+ years of Med-Surg nursing experience
• Stroke certification (e.g., SCRN or equivalent) preferred
• BLS certification (AHA or equivalent) required
• Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in medical-surgical nursing principles
• In-depth knowledge of stroke care and neuro assessments
• Comfortable with post-operative care, including drains and chest tubes
• Skilled in managing IV drips, wound care, and patients with altered mental status
• Adaptable and quick-thinking in a fast-paced unit environment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
