Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered labor and delivery nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients
• Continuously monitor maternal and fetal status using advanced fetal monitoring and intervene appropriately
• Perform immediate newborn care, including resuscitation and stabilization according to NRP standards
• Assist with and circulate for deliveries and obstetric procedures (vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, D&C, cerclage, etc.)
• Collaborate with obstetricians, neonatologists, anesthesia and multidisciplinary teams in high-risk obstetrics cases
• Document patient care accurately in the Cerner EMR and utilize unit technologies like Baxter pumps and Phillips fetal monitoring
• Support unit flow and patient safety while maintaining therapeutic, family-centered communication

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — able to practice in North Carolina (state licensure as required)
• Minimum 2+ years Labor & Delivery (L&D) nursing experience (must-have)
• Experience in high-risk obstetrics (preferred and often required for unit staffing)
• Current NRP certification (required)
• Current BLS/ALS certification (required)
• Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification (required)
• Experience with Cerner EMR and unit equipment like Baxter pumps and Phillips fetal monitors
• Ability to work night shifts and float to related areas (MFMU / MOMB / NICU) as needed

Education

• Active RN license required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred where applicable

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and Delivery nursing best practices and protocols
• Advanced fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Immediate newborn care and neonatal resuscitation (NRP)
• Management of high-risk obstetric patients
• Proficient documentation in Cerner EMR
• Use of Baxter infusion pumps and Phillips electronic fetal monitoring systems
• Strong communication, teamwork and patient advocacy skills
• Comfort assisting in both vaginal and cesarean deliveries
