Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform complex laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and transfusion services
• Evaluate test validity, identify abnormal results, and ensure accurate reporting per protocols
• Run quality control, participate in proficiency testing, and maintain CLIA/COLA compliance
• Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot analyzers; perform maintenance and document issues
• Verify proper specimen collection and processing; resolve any specimen-related issues
• Communicate effectively with providers and nurses on test interpretation and critical values
• Follow safety and infection control protocols; maintain accurate documentation for audits
• Provide technical guidance to MLTs, lab assistants, and new staff; contribute to competency assessments
• Prioritize testing based on clinical urgency to support efficient turnaround times
• Immediately communicate critical (panic) values to the appropriate provider for urgent intervention

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
• Prior clinical laboratory experience required to work independently on solo shifts
• National registered Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent)
• BLS certification required
• Must meet all CLIA 88 guidelines

Education

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of laboratory methodologies, instrumentation, and clinical significance of test results
• Ability to analyze complex data, troubleshoot issues, and apply critical thinking
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems and electronic health records (Point Click preferred)
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical lab practices
• Willingness to be on call for emergency lab services 2-4 nights/days a week
