Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room environment using strict aseptic technique
• Assemble, sterilize, and manage instrumentation and case carts for diverse surgical procedures
• Assist surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, and handling specimens accurately
• Perform Universal Protocol time-outs and follow isolation, laser, radiation, and sharps safety procedures
• Operate and care for specialized equipment including scopes, fiber optic gear, and electrosurgical units
• Chart patient care and perioperative documentation in Epic or preferred charting systems
• Float between surgical departments when needed and support sister ministry facilities like Grace Surgical Hospital
• Cover on-call responsibilities as required, including seven days of call per month

Qualifications

• NBSTSA certification or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required or strongly preferred
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of travel surgical technologist experience required
• Experience in acute care OR settings, Trauma Level II experience required; Level I preferred
• Comfort with a broad case mix including general, orthopedic, neuro, robotics, urology, ENT, plastics, and more
• Ability to float to other surgical departments and work varied days, weekends, and holidays
• Preferred: experience with Epic electronic health record system

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent
• CST or NBSTSA certification preferred; high school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Aseptic technique and Universal Protocol (time-out) expertise
• Instrument processing, sterilization, and high-level disinfection
• Specimen handling and labeling accuracy
• Laser safety, radiation safety, and sharps safety compliance
• Care and handling of scopes, fiber optic equipment, and case cart setup
• Familiarity with robotic platforms such as Da Vinci Xi and robotic-assisted procedures
• Comfort with a wide variety of procedures from gynecology to transplant and trauma cases
• Strong teamwork, communication, and ability to work in fast-paced OR environments
