Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality pre-op and post-op care for surgical, cath lab, and IR patients
- Perform and monitor Phase II recovery and blood transfusions with attention to detail
- Assess, document, and communicate patient status using Meditech EMR and standard reporting
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and PACU staff to ensure smooth patient flow
- Administer medications and treatments per orders and hospital policies
- Maintain accurate vitals, IV management, and post-procedure monitoring to promote timely discharge
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and follow-up
Qualifications
- Current RN license in Texas (required)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required)
- Prior experience in Pre/Post Op, PACU, or perioperative nursing preferred
- Comfortable with blood transfusions, Phase II recovery, and care of cath lab/IR patients
- Ability to work early start times and participate in an on-call/weekend rotation
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with Meditech EMR or similar electronic health record systems
- Skilled in vital signs monitoring, IV therapy, and post-anesthesia patient assessment
- Familiarity with PACU workflows and Phase II discharge criteria
- Ability to manage moderate acuity patients with a typical ratio of 1:3
- Comfortable using stretchers and standard monitoring equipment
