Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity nursing care for step-down and level 1 trauma patients with focus and compassion
- Manage chest tubes, tracheostomies, and suctioning safely and effectively
- Monitor and care for patients on vents, feeding pumps, IV pumps and specialty beds
- Assist with bedside bronchoscopies and chest tube placements as part of the trauma team
- Document patient status, interventions and care plans accurately in Meditech EMR
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and techs to deliver coordinated care
- Advocate for patients and families while maintaining a calm, team-player attitude in high-stress situations
- Participate in unit-level best practices and support a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Current RN license in CO (or multistate compact RN that covers Colorado)
- BLS required
- Demonstrated ability to manage chest tubes, trauma patients, tracheostomies and suction
- ACLS preferred — candidates with ACLS will be prioritized
- Prior experience in trauma, step-down, ICU or similar high-acuity units strongly preferred
- Comfort using Meditech or similar EMR for charting and orders
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Meditech EMR documentation and workflows
- Vent management fundamentals and ability to care for stable vented/trached patients
- Chest tube care and troubleshooting
- Tracheostomy care and suction management
- IV pump/med administration and feeding pump management
- Wound vac familiarity and care for specialty beds
- Acute assessment skills, situational awareness and critical thinking
- Team collaboration and clear communication under pressure
