Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality care to MedSurg patients, including oncology and post-OR recovery patients
• Maintain a safe and effective 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Float as needed within scope of practice to support other units
• Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions using the EPIC charting system
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per physician orders
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to develop and adjust care plans
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, care plans, and discharge instructions
• Respond quickly to changes in patient status and escalate concerns appropriately

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Nebraska or a compact state (license to submit required)
• 2+ years of MedSurg nursing experience (1 year minimum; first-time travelers welcome)
• BLS certification required
• Valid driver's license required at submittal
• Experience with EPIC charting preferred
• Comfortable with oncology and post-OR recovery patient populations
• Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation (90% required)

Education

• BSN not required (ADN accepted)

Knowledge & Skills

• MedSurg nursing principles and best practices
• Oncology patient care and symptom management
• Post-OR recovery care and monitoring
• EPIC electronic health record proficiency
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency response
• Strong patient assessment and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to float to different units as needed
• Comfort with oxygen therapy, including nasal cannula
• Compassionate communication and patient education
• Adaptability and teamwork in a fast-paced environment
