Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the orthodontist in delivering exceptional patient care by preparing treatment rooms, equipment, and materials for each appointment
- Take and process dental X-rays and images to support accurate diagnoses and treatment planning
- Prepare and sterilize instruments while maintaining a clean, welcoming clinical environment
- Educate patients and families on orthodontic care, oral hygiene, and wearing braces or aligners
- Take impressions, digital scans, and photographs of patients' teeth to help create custom treatment appliances
- Manage patient flow and chairside support throughout orthodontic procedures, ensuring every visit runs smoothly
Qualifications
- Current Maryland dental assistant license or certification as required for the role
- Experience in orthodontic assisting is a big plus, but a passion for learning and teamwork matters just as much
- Dental radiology or radiographer certification is preferred
- Ability to connect with patients of all ages and put them at ease
- Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and sterilization standards
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with orthodontic treatments, braces, and aligners
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate patient records and using dental software, with Denticon experience as a bonus
- Strong communication skills to explain procedures and post-treatment care warmly and clearly
- Excellent attention to detail in sterilization, infection control, and patient safety
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dental office while keeping the patient experience positive
