Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate personal care to geriatric residents, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
• Assist with mobility and safe transfers to promote resident independence and prevent falls
• Take and record vital signs accurately and report any changes to nursing staff
• Support nutrition and meal assistance while monitoring dietary needs and intake
• Document resident care, observations, and changes in condition in a timely and accurate manner
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and families to deliver person-centered care
• Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful environment for residents

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification (Class: GNA) — required
• Active Maryland GNA credential or ability to obtain/transfer state certification
• Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or geriatric settings preferred
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Ability to pass background checks, TB screening, and facility-required health screenings
• Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful approach to elder care

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; additional healthcare coursework or certifications a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of geriatric care principles and the unique needs of older adults
• Basic clinical skills: taking vitals, assisting with ADLs, and observing changes in condition
• Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
• Familiarity with infection control practices and maintaining a sanitary environment
• Accurate documentation and basic charting skills
• Compassionate communication with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams
