Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of residents' speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive-communication skills
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that improve quality of life and functional independence
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, and families to ensure coordinated care
- Document resident progress and adjust treatment approaches to meet changing needs
- Educate patients, families, and staff on communication strategies and safe swallowing techniques
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy in a supportive skilled nursing environment
Qualifications
- Active Illinois Speech-Language Pathologist license
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in skilled nursing or similar setting
- Experience working with geriatric populations and patients with dysphagia, aphasia, or cognitive impairments
- Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of evidence-based assessment and treatment for swallowing, speech, and cognitive disorders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary care team
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and therapy documentation systems
- A compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
