Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist chairside during exams and procedures with focus and professionalism
• Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, instruments, and supplies for efficient patient flow
• Perform infection control and sterilization procedures to keep the clinic safe
• Support patient intake and recordkeeping to ensure accurate clinical documentation
• Assist with dental radiographs if certified, following safety protocols
• Communicate clearly and kindly with patients to explain procedures and ease concerns
• Collaborate with the dental team and CDCR facility staff to deliver quality care

Qualifications

• Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification — required
• Valid state licensure/certification as applicable for California
• Experience in dental assisting, ideally in a busy clinic or correctional setting
• CDCR experience desired (experience working in correctional healthcare is a plus)
• Ability to complete one-week orientation as requested by the facility
• Willingness to comply with facility background checks and clearance processes

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Chairside assisting and strong clinical technique
• Infection control and sterilization best practices
• Familiarity with dental instruments, materials, and basic lab procedures
• Dental radiography knowledge (if certified) and safe x-ray practices
• Good charting and documentation habits, plus clear patient communication
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
