Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality therapeutic interventions under the plan of care to help patients regain mobility and independence
• Implement therapeutic exercise, gait training, and functional activities tailored to each patient
• Monitor patient progress, modify treatments as instructed, and document outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate closely with PTs, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient discharge plans
• Educate patients and caregivers on safe mobility, home exercise programs, and use of assistive devices
• Maintain equipment, ensure a safe therapy environment, and follow infection control practices
• Participate in team meetings and contribute clinical observations to improve patient care

Qualifications

• Active Physical Therapist Assistant license (PTA) required — ability to practice in New Mexico
• Completion of an accredited PTA program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Previous experience in outpatient or rehabilitation settings preferred
• Ability to enroll in or have access to the New Mexico Caregivers registry (agencies must have NM caregivers account)
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in therapeutic exercise prescription and progression
• Gait training and safe transfer techniques
• Knowledge of assistive devices and durable medical equipment
• Proficient documentation and charting practices
• Ability to follow detailed treatment plans and clinician instructions
• Strong teamwork, time management, and patient-education skills
