Roles & Responsibilities

  • Take and record patient vital signs, including blood pressure and oxygen saturation, to ensure safety during oral surgery procedures
  • Assist the oral surgeon with nitrous oxide and IV sedation, monitoring patients throughout their procedure
  • Capture high-quality panoramic X-rays to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Prepare the operatory for wisdom tooth surgery and anticipate the surgeon's needs for a smooth workflow
  • Provide compassionate, clear communication to patients before, during, and after their procedure
  • Maintain a sterile, organized environment and follow infection control protocols
  • Educate patients on post-operative care instructions for optimal recovery

Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent state certification
  • Hands-on experience taking vital signs
  • Experience with nitrous oxide and IV sedation
  • Proficiency in taking panoramic X-rays
  • Experience assisting with wisdom tooth surgery
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-focused attitude

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of dental terminology and oral surgery procedures
  • Skilled in monitoring vital signs and recognizing changes in patient status
  • Proficient with panoramic X-ray equipment and imaging techniques
  • Understanding of nitrous oxide and IV sedation protocols
  • Attention to detail and commitment to infection control standards
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with patients and the surgical team
