Shift Type: Tuesday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (day); occasional coverage any 2 weekdays per month with 8-hour or 10-hour clinic options

Candidate Pay Rate: $98 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive eye exams and primary eye care services for patients at HDSP
• Perform refractions, diagnose and manage common ocular conditions, and recommend treatment plans
• Fit and manage contact lens and spectacle prescriptions as needed
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and document findings clearly and professionally
• Coordinate care with facility medical staff and follow established clinical protocols
• Maintain accurate medical records and comply with facility security and documentation requirements
• Participate in scheduled clinic coverage and orientation activities

Qualifications

• Licensed Optometrist or equivalent credential (California licensure preferred or ability to obtain)
• Experience providing routine eye care and refractions
• Comfort working within a correctional health environment and following facility security procedures
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Willingness to participate in orientation and occasional clinic scheduling flexibility

Education

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent clinical optometry degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical refraction and vision assessment skills
• Knowledge of ocular disease recognition and basic management
• Experience with contact lens fittings and spectacle prescriptions
• Familiarity with infection control and safe clinical practices
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Professionalism and adaptability in structured facility settings
