Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Four 10-hour shifts per week, 7:30 AM - 6:30 PM; includes weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $92 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Review every prescription for safety, legality, and therapeutic appropriateness before dispensing, and collaborate with prescribers to optimize drug therapy
  • Counsel patients clearly about their medications, expected outcomes, and proper use to improve compliance and reduce complications
  • Perform chart reviews, medication therapy management, and recommend prescription refills for optimal patient care
  • Direct and support pharmacy technicians and serve as a mentor and educator for pharmacy students and support personnel
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, formulary management, and clinical committees to elevate patient outcomes
  • Provide drug information and staff education to the medical, nursing, and village teams

Qualifications

  • Must hold an unrestricted, active Registered Pharmacist license in the state of Alaska
  • Pharm.D. degree required (or Bachelor of Pharmacy with licensure prior to 2003 and 3+ years of hospital/ambulatory experience)
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience in a hospital or ambulatory clinic setting
  • ASHP residency completion preferred

Education

  • Pharm.D. degree required
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy degree acceptable for candidates licensed prior to 2003 with 3 years of hospital or ambulatory clinic pharmacy experience

Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences and drug therapy
  • Strong communication skills for clear patient counseling and interprofessional collaboration
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software, computer systems, and medical record review
  • Excellent math skills for accurate oral and IV dosage calculations
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make critical decisions
  • Adaptability to handle frequent interruptions, changing workloads, and emergency requests
