Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients promptly and thoroughly to create and update individualized care plans
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following facility protocols
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation for behavioral health situations
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate discharge planning and follow-up
• Maintain a therapeutic, compassionate presence with patients and families
• Ensure unit safety through vigilant observation, risk assessment, and adherence to policies
• Participate in required competency exams and specialty checklists to maintain excellence

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (California preferred)
• Minimum 1 year RN experience
• Minimum 6 months experience in a Behavioral Health unit
• DCI/BVP certification (required)
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam
• Up-to-date immunizations and health screenings per facility policy (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, TB screening, Tdap, Varicella, influenza)
• Ability to pass standard pre-placement screens: drug screen, fit test, and required health documentation

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record
• Strong therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques
• Behavioral health assessment, suicide and violence risk assessment
• Medication administration and documentation best practices
• Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced inpatient behavioral medicine settings
• Team collaboration, clinical judgment, and patient-centered care focus
• Time management, prioritization, and crisis decision-making
