Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care for neonates through older adults using the nursing process
• Coordinate patient care with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure smooth, timely operative flow
• Direct and guide OR technicians and other personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards
• Perform thorough pre-op and post-op assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation
• Participate in unit performance improvement activities, in-services and interdisciplinary meetings
• Maintain regulatory and hospital policy compliance and act as a resource for colleagues
• Ensure efficient patient flow and contribute to unit organization and readiness

Qualifications

• Current and valid RN license (state licensure required)
• Current BLS (AHA) on hire and maintained
• Current ACLS (AHA) required within 30 days of hire and maintained
• Current PALS (AHA) required within 30 days of hire and maintained
• Open-heart (cardiac surgery) experience required
• Minimum of one year perioperative experience or documented on-the-job training
• CNOR (AORN) certification preferred
• Ability to take call as required (no exceptions)
• Compliance with required health screenings and immunizations (drug screen, TB, COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Varicella, Hep B, Tdap, fit test, etc.)
• Completion of facility testing/checklists (pharmacology, rhythm interpretation, core competencies, specialty exam, skills checklist)

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing practices and sterile technique
• Operating Room workflow, instrumentation and patient positioning
• Pre- and post-operative patient assessment and monitoring
• Coordination and communication with surgeons, anesthesiologists and multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to lead and mentor OR technicians and support staff
• Documentation, infection control, and regulatory compliance
• Basic rhythm recognition and pharmacology knowledge (facility testing required)
