Roles & Responsibilities
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and trays to strict infection-control standards
- Assemble and set up instrument sets and trays for general, ortho, spine, gyn, cysto, trauma and robotic (DaVinci) cases
- Sterilize, label and track trays so the OR has what it needs for next-day surgery
- Provide dependable SPD/OR support across a busy 10-room OR suite and ancillary clinics
- Work with vendors to maintain instrument integrity and availability
- Complete department orientation tasks including the scavenger hunt before working independently
- Communicate clearly with surgical teams and charge tech to keep cases on schedule
Qualifications
- BLS (AHA) certification (required)
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) via HSPA (required)
- CIS certification preferred
- 3-4 years of sterile processing or SPD/OR experience, including exposure to ortho, spine, trauma and robotic cases
- Familiarity with EPIC charting is a plus
- Valid driver’s license on file and ability to work within a 60-mile radius of the facility
- Able to complete 12 hours of orientation and department-specific onboarding
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- CRCST certification (required)
- BLS (AHA) certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Sterile Processing and tray sterilization best practices
- Decontamination workflows and instrument assembly
- SPD/OR support in a fast-paced acute care setting
- Experience with common cases: general surgery, orthopedics, spine, gynecology, cystoscopy, trauma
- Comfort working with robotic instruments (DaVinci) and vendor-managed equipment
- Familiarity with EPIC and typical hospital charting systems
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize for next-day cases
