Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care to adult ICU patients, including trauma, neuro, and cardiac cases
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage telemetry independently using GE monitors
• Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and according to protocols
• Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory devices (Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840)
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned (coordinate unit flow; will not take patients while charging)
• Collaborate 24/7 with in-house intensivists, RTs, and interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes
• Perform focused assessments, document in Cerner, and communicate clear handoffs during shift changes
• Participate in simulation lab and competency validations as part of orientation and ongoing practice

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (able to practice in Arizona or obtain AZ licensure prior to start)
• Minimum 3 years recent ICU experience required (NO EXCEPTIONS) with at least 2 years in the ICU
• Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) patient care
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (must be valid and current)
• Ability to interpret ECG/telemetry and pass UNA Dysrhythmia exam (exam must be completed 24-48 hours prior; max 2 attempts)
• Comfort titrating drips and managing complex infusions listed in unit protocols
• Willingness to float to telemetry (1:3 or 1:4) and to sister ICUs as needed
• Successful completion of a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care and ICU nursing fundamentals
• Ventilator management and advanced respiratory support
• Drip titration and vasoactive medication management
• ECG/telemetry rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Trauma, neuro, and cardiac critical care knowledge (Level 1 trauma center experience a plus)
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system
• Experience with specialty devices: CRRT, ECMO, IABP, Impella, TAVR exposure preferred
• Comfort with multiple ventilator brands (Puritan Bennett, Dreager, Hamilton) and bedside monitoring
