Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare orthodontic treatment rooms and sterilize instruments for every patient
- Assist the orthodontist during procedures such as bands, brackets, wires, and impressions
- Take and develop dental x-rays while following all safety and infection control procedures
- Educate patients and parents on proper oral hygiene and post-treatment care
- Maintain accurate patient records, update charts, and support efficient patient flow
- Provide warm, encouraging chairside support to help patients feel at ease
Qualifications
- Must be orthodontic certified (ortho certification required)
- Current dental assistant certification or licensure as required by Maryland
- Previous orthodontic assisting experience is a plus
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
- Strong patient communication skills and a positive, team-first attitude
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of orthodontic instruments, procedures, and terminology
- Experience with dental x-rays and digital impression systems
- Comfortable using dental practice management software
- Detail-oriented when updating treatment records
- Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with patients of all ages
