Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to psychiatric patients in a correctional medical setting
• Observe, document and report changes in behavior and clinical status accurately and promptly
• Assist with daily living activities and support therapeutic programming as directed
• Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment
• Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians and custody staff to support care plans
• Maintain clear, timely charts and complete required documentation and incident reports

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license — California required
• Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare setting and following facility protocols
• Basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Ability to pass facility background checks and required health screenings
• Strong communication skills and a calm, professional demeanor in stressful situations

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of an approved psychiatric technician training program preferred
• Active California LPT licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of psychiatric patient observation and reporting
• Skills in crisis intervention and safe patient handling
• Familiarity with documentation standards and electronic charting
• Ability to follow behavioral care plans and medication observation procedures
• Strong teamwork, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
