Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform transthoracic, M-mode, color-flow Doppler and transesophageal echocardiography accurately and promptly
• Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography with careful monitoring
• Perform EKGs, Holter monitor setup and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment and use computer analysis tools
• Assess scheduling and hospital information systems to ensure proper processing and documentation of studies
• Apply infection control practices and aseptic technique to maintain a safe environment
• Provide age-specific patient care, including neonatal and pediatric echocardiography when required
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor, mentoring students and supporting the care team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with physicians, nurses and students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Certificate Program or Cardiovascular Sonography certificate preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in transthoracic, transesophageal and pediatric echocardiography techniques
• Experience with color-flow Doppler, M-mode and stress echocardiography
• Skilled in EKG, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Comfortable with echocardiography equipment operation and computer analysis of cardiac studies
• Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Familiarity with hospital scheduling and billing systems
• Ability to provide age-specific patient care and clinical teaching/preceptorship
