Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise all functions of the Clinical Laboratory, including staffing, training, and scheduling
• Develop and implement operating policies and procedures to meet licensure and regulatory requirements
• Manage the department budget in a cost-effective manner using current materials management techniques
• Establish and monitor staff performance standards, conducting evaluations and providing ongoing coaching
• Ensure accurate quality control documentation and review test results for accuracy
• Interview, hire, and evaluate employees according to district policy
• Maintain 24/7 laboratory coverage and resolve personnel concerns at the departmental level
• Collaborate with physicians and administration to promote patient care and performance improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry
• California licensure as a Medical Technologist (or in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Serology, or Microbiology)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
• Certification preferred: ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (additional languages a plus)
• Proficiency in laboratory equipment and testing procedures

Education

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical laboratory management and staff supervision
• Budgeting and cost containment
• Quality control and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, etc.)
• Performance improvement and staff development
• Scheduling and training coordination
• Proficiency in laboratory equipment and testing methodologies
• Basic computer knowledge for documentation and reporting
