Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and nurses during EGDs, colonoscopies, ERCPs, EUS, and flexible sigmoidoscopies by anticipating needs and passing instruments promptly
- Prepare and position patients for procedures under RN or physician supervision, ensuring comfort and safety
- Set up and test endoscopy towers, scopes, light sources, suction, video processors, and monitors before each case
- Handle biopsy forceps, snares, injection needles, retrieval devices, and other GI instruments with care and precision
- Maintain infection control standards by ensuring instruments and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and report maintenance needs quickly to minimize procedure delays
- Keep procedure areas stocked and organized so teams can focus on patient care
Qualifications
- Previous experience in endoscopy, GI instrumentation, or a surgical/procedural setting preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred; facility-specific requirements will be discussed during interview
- Familiarity with handling biopsy forceps, snares, injection needles, and retrieval devices
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in fast-paced procedural environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with physicians, nurses, and support staff
- Ability to follow infection control protocols and maintain equipment sterility
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Postsecondary certificate in Endoscopy Technology, Surgical Technology, or related field preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Procedure readiness and intra-procedure support
- Endoscopy equipment setup, testing, and basic troubleshooting
- GI instrumentation knowledge including biopsy forceps and snares
- Infection control and sterilization practices
- Patient positioning and basic peri-procedural patient care
- Attention to detail and strong situational awareness in procedure suites
