Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate pre-operative care to pediatric patients, ensuring their comfort and safety before surgery
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history reviews, vital signs, and medication reconciliation
• Prepare patients for surgery by starting IVs, administering prescribed medications, and verifying consent
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to coordinate seamless care
• Educate patients and families about the surgical process, easing anxiety and building trust
• Advocate for each child's unique needs, ensuring a positive experience
• Maintain a sterile and organized pre-op environment, following all safety protocols

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or compact state
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Experience in pre-operative, same-day surgery, or perioperative nursing
• Pediatric life support (PALS) certification is a plus
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with children and families
• Ability to work flexible per diem shifts

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of pre-operative nursing procedures and protocols
• Proficient in IV insertion and medication administration
• Knowledge of pediatric care principles and age-appropriate communication
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
