Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU
• Monitor vital signs and recovery status, intervene promptly when changes occur
• Administer medications and manage pain control per physician orders and protocols
• Communicate clearly with families about recovery progress and post-operative care instructions
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure smooth transitions
• Document care accurately and timely in the patient record to support continuity and compliance
• Participate in orientation and ongoing education to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Massachusetts (or compact RN with MA authorization as applicable)
• Recent PACU experience preferred, pediatric PACU experience a strong plus
• BLS required; PALS and/or ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and meet facility immunization requirements
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a patient- and family-centered approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of post-anesthesia recovery principles and pediatric physiology
• Skillful assessment of airway, breathing, circulation, level of consciousness, and pain
• Competence with pediatric medication dosing and IV management
• Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced PACU environment and escalate concerns appropriately
• Compassionate family education and clear clinical documentation skills
