Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert nursing care to mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and postpartum
• Assess, monitor, and support patients throughout the birthing process
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and the healthcare team to ensure safe deliveries
• Educate new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, and recovery
• Respond quickly to emergencies and provide critical interventions when needed
• Document patient care accurately and maintain the highest standards of safety

Qualifications

• Current and active RN license in Virginia (or compact state)
• BLS certification required
• NRP certification preferred
• Previous Labor and Delivery experience strongly preferred
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
• Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of maternal and fetal monitoring
• Skilled in labor support techniques and pain management
• Ability to interpret fetal heart rate patterns
• Comfortable with emergency procedures (e.g., C-section assist, neonatal resuscitation)
• Excellent patient education and advocacy skills
• Strong charting and documentation abilities
