Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 3:00 AM, or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; weekend rotation: 4 shifts per month (1 per week or 2 every other week)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert emergency nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients in a fast-paced Level II trauma center environment
• Perform thorough triage assessments to prioritize patient care needs efficiently
• Collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, and the ED team to deliver exceptional treatment for a wide range of conditions, from minor injuries to critical emergencies
• Manage ER holds with continuous assessments and timely interventions
• Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and initiate life-saving measures as needed
• Float between the Adult ER and Peds ER to ensure seamless, high-quality coverage
• Document care accurately in Cerner EMR while maintaining strict compliance with hospital policies

Qualifications

• 2+ years of recent Emergency Room experience (required)
• Previous travel assignment experience (no first-time travelers, please)
• Active California RN license or ability to obtain one
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications
• Experience with both adult and pediatric ER patients (almost half the patient population is pediatric)
• Triage experience is a must
• Comfortable floating between Adult and Peds ER units

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical thinking and rapid assessment skills
• Basic EKG interpretation and rhythm recognition
• Proficient with Cerner electronic medical records
• Knowledge of triage protocols and acuity levels
• Ability to manage medical emergencies including respiratory failure, STEMI, CVA, and trauma
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to thrive in a high-pressure environment
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and procedural sedation
