Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform one-time Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and clarity
• Complete standardized DBQs and submit reports within the required 48-hour window
• Conduct focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing using a goniometer
• Review medical records and incorporate findings into accurate, standardized forms
• Provide timely follow-up administrative documentation (addendums, medical opinions, diagnostic reads)
• Use the VES provider portal to document evaluations and manage case workflow
• Participate in required DMA training and the one-on-one PEP session to ensure quality and compliance
• Maintain non-treatment, evaluation-only approach (no prescribing or clinical treatment during C&P exams)

Qualifications

• Active MD or DO (or equivalent) medical licensure appropriate for the assigned state(s)
• Background in general medicine — family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedic surgery welcomed
• Experience or comfort with Compensation & Pension exams, separation assessments, or disability evaluations
• Proficiency with musculoskeletal assessments (goniometer, ROM testing, muscle strength testing)
• Ability to complete DBQs/reporting within 48 hours of exam completion
• Willingness to complete DMA certification once privileged (training provided)
• Reliable personal laptop (PC — no Macs allowed for portal compatibility)
• Comfort using teleconferencing tools (Zoom or Microsoft Teams) for training and coordination

Education

• MD or DO (or equivalent physician degree) — residency in family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedic surgery preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Range of motion testing and goniometer use
• Muscle strength testing and musculoskeletal exam techniques
• Evaluation and diagnosis of respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological conditions
• Familiarity with diabetes and cardiology considerations in functional assessments
• METs testing proficiency
• Medical record review and synthesizing chart data into standardized DBQs
• Comfort using secure provider portals and electronic documentation workflows
• Strong clinical communication and clear, concise documentation skills
