Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide individualized intermediate-level nursing care to cardiac and post-surgical patients in a fast-paced stepdown unit
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, responding quickly to changes in patient status
• Titrate and manage IV infusions including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and cardizem
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, hospitalists, and cardiologists for optimal patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, medications, and recovery plans
• Float to same-level or lower-acuity units as needed, showcasing versatility and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska or compact state
• Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience, including at least 1 year in a cardiac or stepdown setting
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (must be maintained throughout assignment)
• Valid driver's license required for radius verification
• Pass an open-book exam with 90% or higher during orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing accepted; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry interpretation and rhythm recognition skills
• Proficiency in IV drip titration and cardiac medication management
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record charting
• Familiarity with caring for patients with CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac/vascular diagnoses
• Ability to assist with respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
• Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
