Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and lead therapeutic recreation groups and activities that support mental health goals
• Assess participant needs and create individualized treatment/recreation plans
• Document progress, outcomes, and treatment notes accurately and timely
• Collaborate with mental health and custodial teams to coordinate care and safety
• Adapt activities to meet the needs of a correctional population with dignity and respect
• Monitor participants for behavioral changes and provide appropriate interventions
• Contribute to program development, events, and community reintegration planning
• Support orientation and training efforts to maintain program consistency

Qualifications

• Experience in recreational therapy or therapeutic recreation with a focus on mental health
• Certification or credential in recreational therapy or Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred
• Comfort working within a correctional facility and following facility security protocols
• Strong documentation skills and familiarity with clinical record-keeping
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility clearances

Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in group facilitation and activity planning for diverse needs
• Knowledge of behavioral management and crisis de-escalation techniques
• Familiarity with mental health treatment modalities and therapeutic goals
• Strong communication and collaboration with clinical teams
• Cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care approach
• Time management and organizational skills for program documentation
