Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients with a patient-first approach
• Assist in complex cardiac surgeries, including endoscopic vein harvesting using Maquet-Getinge
• Serve as first assist during surgical procedures when needed
• Manage CVICU, ICU, floor, and clinic patients — including rounding, evaluation, and follow-up
• Order, interpret, and act on laboratory and diagnostic tests to drive care plans
• Develop and implement detailed plans of care and ensure timely clinical documentation
• Prescribe medications and manage medication orders per policy and regulations
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the population and setting
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent care
• Engage in ongoing CME to maintain and enhance clinical expertise

Qualifications

• Physician Assistant credential (PA) with current certification/credential and state licensure (or eligibility)
• Minimum 3 years' experience in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and ICU patient management
• Hands-on experience with endoscopic vein harvesting (Maquet-Getinge) and first-assist duties
• Proven ability to order and interpret diagnostic tests and to prescribe medications per policy
• Strong clinical documentation skills and independent clinical judgment under physician supervision
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment with multidisciplinary collaboration
• U.S. work authorization required; UCHealth is unable to support visa candidates
• This opportunity is permanent only; no locum tenens or locum-to-perm arrangements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (or equivalent clinical training)
• Ongoing CME as required to maintain clinical competency
