Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, professional medical support to patients in the mental health unit — be the steady presence they need
• Take and document vital signs, patient histories, and clinical observations accurately and promptly
• Assist clinicians with mental health assessments, treatment activities, and medication administration as directed
• Maintain clear, timely charting and ensure confidentiality and adherence to facility protocols
• Support patient safety through observation, de-escalation techniques, and reporting of concerns
• Prepare exam rooms, manage supplies, and help maintain a clean, safe clinical environment
• Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and follow-up

Qualifications

• Current Medical Assistant certification or completed accredited MA program preferred
• BLS/CPR certification required or obtained upon hire
• Experience working in mental health settings or correctional healthcare is strongly preferred
• Ability to pass background checks, security clearance, and required health screenings/immunizations
• Strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Comfortable following strict protocols and documentation standards in a secure facility

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certificate or diploma preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency taking vitals and performing basic clinical procedures
• Familiarity with medication administration processes and safe handling
• Solid documentation skills and experience with electronic health records (EHR)
• Competence in patient observation, behavioral health awareness, and de-escalation techniques
• Infection control practices and standard precautions
• Teamwork, time management, and the ability to prioritize in a busy clinical environment
