Respiratory Therapist - Acute Care

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night 3x12-hour, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (3 nights/week). Variable coverage possible — traveler may fulfill remaining contract on midshift or day shift depending on who fills the permanent dayshift.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $56 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage ventilators and perform ventilator weaning using Puritan Bennett and Avea systems
- Provide advanced airway management and tracheostomy care
- Deliver and troubleshoot noninvasive support including BiPAP and CPAP
- Administer respiratory medications and set up aerosol/MDI/nebulizer therapies
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and basic EKGs to guide patient care
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in acute care and trauma settings
- Support neonatal and pediatric needs when required, including assistance with high-risk deliveries
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years respiratory therapy experience (as stated)
- Community hospital experience and Trauma Level II experience required
- Current state respiratory therapy license (pending license not accepted)
- Required hands-on experience with Puritan Bennett and Avea ventilators
- Certifications preferred: ACLS, BLS, CRT, NRP, PALS, RRT
- Comfort with adult critical care, emergency department, and neonatal/pediatrics care settings
- Ability to float between like units as needed
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
- Weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Airway management, suctioning and extubation
- Tracheostomy care and sputum specimen collection
- Aerosol setup, nebulizers, MDI and other medication delivery systems
- Oxygen therapy and use of T-piece, trach collar and high-flow devices
- Familiarity with inhaled therapies including Nitric Oxide (INo), Inhaled Flolan and common bronchodilators
- Interpretation of ABGs and basic EKG knowledge
- Charting proficiency in Epic
