Roles & Responsibilities

• Navigate surgery patients through the perioperative diagnostic and treatment process with clinical confidence
• Perform pre-anesthesia testing (PAT) and ensure patients are prepared and safe for their procedures
• Establish positive, respectful relationships with patients and families to reduce anxiety and improve outcomes
• Coordinate care across teams, communicate plan details, and follow up to close the loop on patient needs
• Document care accurately and timely, using the electronic health record (EPIC experience preferred)
• Educate patients and families about perioperative expectations, postoperative care, and discharge plans
• Identify barriers to successful surgical care and collaborate on solutions to improve patient experience

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Registered Nurse (RN) with unrestricted Colorado license, or ability to obtain prior to start
• Basic Life Support (BLS) — may be obtained upon hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• At least 3 years of inpatient or outpatient orthopedic nursing experience and/or medical-surgical experience
• Experience with EPIC is preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Must be healthy enough to safely function at high elevation (around 8,000 ft)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and patient navigation expertise
• Pre-anesthesia testing (PAT) and perioperative assessment skills
• Strong patient and family communication and teaching abilities
• Orthopedic nursing and medical-surgical clinical judgment
• Comfort with inpatient and outpatient workflows
• Familiarity with EPIC charting preferred
• Cultural sensitivity and bilingual communication is a plus

This is a travel assignment in beautiful Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. When you are off shift, enjoy world-class skiing and snowboarding at Aspen Mountain and Snowmass, scenic hikes to Maroon Bells, mountain biking and trail running, and a lively arts and music scene downtown. For a change of pace, drive to Glenwood Springs to soak in the hot springs, or explore nearby Basalt and Carbondale for farmers markets, riverside walks, and local cafes. Note: housing is the traveler’s responsibility; surrounding towns (Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs) can be more affordable, and the job notes that $3,500/month is common for a 1BR in Basalt during peak seasons. Also be mindful of the elevation — the role requires being healthy enough to function safely at ~8,000 ft.
