Shift Type: Night shift, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday), holidays rotated with core staff. Arrive 15 minutes early for shift change with huddle at 6:45 PM

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse general medicine and internal medicine patient population on a 20-bed MedSurg/Tele unit
• Perform IV starts and blood draws, handling the majority of phlebotomy for your patients
• Titrate cardiac drips such as heparin and lasix while monitoring patient response
• Interpret EKG strips and maintain full telemetry competency, even though this floor runs without tele monitors
• Float confidently to other MedSurg/Tele acuity floors as part of the core staff rotation
• Partner with charge nurses, nurse aids, and respiratory therapy to keep care coordinated and smooth
• Document accurately and efficiently in Epic
• Support patients navigating cellulitis, abdominal pain, surgical overflow, transplant workups, infections, and rehab or SNF transitions

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, ready to submit
• Minimum of 3 years of RN experience with a strong general medicine and internal medicine background
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required for floating purposes
• Must pass a telemetry competency exam and EKG exam
• Proficient and confident with IV starts and blood draws
• Charge nurse experience is preferred but not required
• Epic charting experience is preferred

Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients "This floor gets a little of everything in the general medicine/internal medicine population. Generally a lower acuity population- manager compares it to a regular Med Surg unit in a community hospital.

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry competency and the ability to interpret cardiac strips
• Cardiac drip titration for heparin and lasix
• Solid IV start and blood draw technique
• General medicine and internal medicine clinical judgment
• Strong assessment skills for a lower acuity but varied patient mix
• Teamwork and adaptability, since floating is part of the role
• Clear communication with patients, families, and the care team
• Comfort with Epic charting and electronic documentation
