Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (days not specified) day shift

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
  • Provide compassionate, person-centered care that promotes dignity and independence
  • Support mealtime assistance and ensure hydration and nutrition needs are met
  • Monitor resident condition and promptly report any changes to nursing staff
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment and adhere to infection control procedures
  • Document care accurately and communicate effectively with the care team and families

Qualifications

  • Valid GNA / Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification (required)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated compassionate approach working with older adults
  • Ability to pass background check and required health screenings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Previous experience in long-term care or assisted living is a plus

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • GNA / Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Familiarity with activities of daily living (ADLs) and elder care best practices
  • Basic vital sign measurement and resident observation skills
  • Knowledge of infection control and resident safety protocols
  • Comfortable assisting with mobility, transfers, and safe use of equipment
  • Good documentation habits and clear verbal communication
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build rapport with seniors
