Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care for adult and geriatric med-surg/telemetry patients, including those with respiratory compromise
• Start and maintain IVs, administer blood products, and manage central and peripheral lines safely
• Monitor cardiac telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and manage dysrhythmias per protocol
• Manage ventilator/trach and non-invasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP) patients as assigned, with the unit model limiting nurses to one vent patient at a time
• Titrate and manage cardiac and vasoactive drips following unit and heparin protocols
• Respond to rapid response and code team activations and participate in emergency interventions
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (RT, vascular access, charge RN, assistant nurse manager) to optimize patient outcomes
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic and use Pyxis for medication management
• Float to like units as needed and support unit staffing and patient flow with a teamwork mindset

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of North Carolina or compact/eligible for NC practice
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience required, with demonstrated experience in high-acuity med-surg/telemetry and 1:6 ratios within the last 5 years (HARD STOP)
• BLS and ACLS required prior to start
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
• Comfortable caring for patients with chest tubes, ventilators/trachs, CPAP/BiPAP, and titratable drips

Knowledge & Skills

• IV therapy, starting and maintaining IVs, central and peripheral line care
• Ventilator, trach, CPAP and BiPAP management and non-invasive airway care
• Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips and familiarity with heparin protocols
• Blood product administration and familiarity with unit emergency/code processes
• Proficiency with Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Ability to work in high-acuity med-surg/PCU/telemetry environment and operate as a collaborative team member
