Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on occupational therapy interventions to help patients regain independence in daily living skills
- Implement individualized treatment plans under the supervision of an OT and document progress accurately
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes
- Coach patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques, equipment use, and home safety
- Conduct functional assessments and contribute to discharge planning to ensure safe transitions
- Maintain timely, compliant documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Licensed or certified as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
- Active or eligible to obtain required New Mexico credentials and ability to work in NM
- Comfortable working Monday through Friday on a day shift schedule
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage patients of varied ages and diagnoses
- Previous experience in transitional, inpatient rehab, or similar settings preferred
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (or related accredited program) required
- COTA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL retraining, therapeutic activities, and adaptive equipment recommendations
- Proficient in patient assessment, goal-setting, and progress documentation
- Familiarity with common rehabilitation modalities and safety/transfer techniques
- Clear communication and patient education skills with a family-centered approach
- Comfortable using electronic health records and maintaining compliance standards
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehab team
