Roles & Responsibilities
- Take and record patient vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse oximetry, before and during procedures
- Assist the oral surgeon with nitrous oxide and IV sedation to keep patients comfortable and safe
- Capture panoramic X-rays to support surgical planning and diagnosis
- Support wisdom tooth extraction surgeries with precise instrument handling and patient monitoring
- Provide clear, compassionate post-operative instructions to help patients recover smoothly
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and treatment rooms for each procedure
- Monitor patients throughout their visit and help ease any anxiety or concerns
- Collaborate with the dental team to maintain an efficient, welcoming environment
Qualifications
- Certified or registered Dental Assistant, as required by Virginia state regulations
- Experience taking vital signs and monitoring patients in a clinical setting
- Comfortable assisting with nitrous oxide and IV sedation cases
- Experience with panoramic X-rays and oral surgery procedures
- CPR/BLS certification is strongly preferred
- A friendly, calming presence and strong communication skills

- Oral surgery assisting techniques and instrument handling
- Nitrous oxide sedation monitoring and patient observation
- Panoramic radiography and digital imaging
- Vital sign assessment and recognition of changes
- Post-operative patient education and discharge instructions
- Sterilization, infection control, and OSHA standards
