Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and pre-op education so patients arrive to the OR informed and prepared
• Provide expert post-op/PACU care, monitoring vitals and supporting safe recovery from anesthesia
• Manage complex cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz monitoring and interpret trends to guide care
• Start and maintain IVs, manage central/PICC lines and administer blood products safely and accurately
• Assess and manage airways, chest tubes and interpret ABGs when needed to support respiratory stability
• Obtain 12-lead ECGs, procedural consents and review history & physicals to ensure readiness for procedures
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia and interdisciplinary support (PT, RT, pharmacy, social work) for coordinated care
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest/CPR and other emergencies with calm, evidence-based action
• Document care thoroughly in Epic to maintain excellent charting and continuity

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the appropriate jurisdiction
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (Pre-op/Post-op experience required)
• BLS required (American Heart Association or equivalent)
• Epic charting experience required — strong electronic documentation skills
• ACLS preferred; NIHSS preferred
• PACU or Phase I PACU experience preferred; Level I trauma experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience is a plus
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Pre-op assessment and pre/post operative procedures
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia recognition and management
• Arterial line, central line and Swan-Ganz (pulmonary artery) monitoring and care
• IV therapy, blood product administration and phlebotomy
• Airway assessment, chest tube management and ABG interpretation
• Familiarity with cardiac and vascular surgery cases (CABG, TAVR, AAA repair, EVAR, etc.)
• Strong perioperative patient education and consent process skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
