Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators (GE and preferred Hamilton models) to keep patients breathing safely
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust ventilator settings and therapies appropriately
- Provide airway and tracheostomy care, including suctioning and airway device placement
- Deliver and titrate respiratory medications and use multiple delivery systems (MDI, nebulizers, aerosol setups)
- Perform extubation and weaning protocols when clinically indicated
- Manage High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP and CPAP therapies and respond to high-pressure alarms
- Chart patient care accurately in Epic and maintain clear communication with the multidisciplinary team
- Support patient and family education around pulmonary hygiene, oxygen therapy, and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
- Active Ohio state license (OH State License) required
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience (adult critical care preferred)
- Epic experience required for charting and documentation
- BLS required; ACLS and CRT highly preferred
- Previous travel experience preferred
- Full holiday availability required (no RTO on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be considered)
- Willingness to float to University Hospital as needed
Education
- High school and college diploma and/or transcript (as listed)
- Respiratory Therapy diploma or Associate degree preferred
- RRT credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management (GE ventilators; Hamilton preferred)
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Airway management, suctioning, extubation, and tracheostomy care
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP and oxygen therapy
- Medication administration for inhaled and systemic respiratory meds
- Use of nebulizers, MDI and other medication delivery systems
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Experience working in adult critical care and emergency department settings
- Strong Epic documentation skills and clear interdisciplinary communication
