Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage Surgical Services operations and lead the OR team with clarity and compassion
- Direct age-appropriate perioperative care and ensure adherence to standards
- Make timely administrative decisions within your scope to keep the department running smoothly
- Scrub for general and orthopedic surgeries as needed to maintain clinical presence
- Coach and mentor staff, fostering professional growth and strong teamwork
- Develop, review and enforce policies and procedures that support patient safety
- Respond rapidly and effectively in emergency situations to protect patients and staff
- Collaborate with the Chief Quality & Nursing Officer to align surgical services with organizational goals
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Maine
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required (may obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required (may obtain within 6 months of hire)
- CNOR certification required
- Minimum 3 years perioperative experience and demonstrated ability to scrub for general and orthopedic cases
- Advanced computer skills and demonstrated ability to use clinical documentation systems
- Proven leadership, strong communication, organization and conflict management skills
- Ability to function independently and perform under pressure in emergency situations
Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative nursing best practices and the nursing process
- Operating room scrub techniques for general and orthopedic surgeries
- Surgical services management and departmental oversight
- Age-appropriate patient care across the perioperative continuum
- Policy and procedure development, implementation and adherence
- Emergency response protocols and rapid clinical decision-making
- Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable with advanced computer systems and electronic documentation
