Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient outcomes and update the plan of care collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team
• Deliver physician-ordered respiratory care while communicating closely with medical and nursing staff
• Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and families about respiratory conditions and interventions
• Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care to ensure quality patient outcomes
• Share clinical knowledge with staff and students and serve as a role model for best practices
• Accept reassignment to other units as needed to support patient care across the facility

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) — required
• Active Illinois Respiratory Care License
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• NRP-MHC certification
• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field
• Comfort with multidisciplinary communication and patient education
• Willingness to accept reassignment to other units when necessary

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong respiratory care clinical skills and ability to implement evidence-based practice
• Patient education: explain procedures and ensure patient/family understanding
• Multidisciplinary team communication to coordinate care effectively
• Care plan evaluation and therapeutic adjustment based on patient response
• Clinical mentoring and role modeling to support staff development
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing unit needs and assignments
